Laser Therapy

Laser therapy, or "photobiomodulation", is the use of specific wavelengths of light to biostimulate inter-cellular activity and create therapeutic effects, therefore, accelerate the body's natural healing process. It is a non-invasive, non-addictive, safe and effective treatment modality to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, decrease scar tissue formation, promote soft tissue repair and faster wound healing.

Pentland Footcare uses MLS dual-wavelength Class IV laser, an effective medical therapeutic laser safely used for pain management and tissue repair. It has the ability to treat a wide variety of both acute and chronic conditions.

What can I expect during a treatment?

It is a painless treatment and there are no significant side effects. It will takeĀ an average of 5-20 minutes to complete per application, depending on the size of treating area and condition. There is little or no sensation during treatment. Occasionally one feels mild, soothing warmth or tingling at the point of application.

How long before the results are felt?

Most people experience positive (usually pain reduction) results in 1 to 3 treatments. The cellular effects of each laser treatment are cumulative and improvement are often felt as you proceed through your treatment plan.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required varies depending on the condition and your body's response. Acute conditions may need fewer treatments with chronic issues potentially requiring more. After the initial assessment, your clinician will tailor a treatment plan for you.

Can it be used in conjunction with other forms of treatment?

Yes. Laser therapy is sometimes more effective when combined with other forms of therapy including, but not limited to, physio therapy, prescribed insole/orthotics, massage, soft tissue mobilization, electrotherapy, and following surgery.
